NARA, RG 59 Central Decimal File 1950-1954 Box 4187, Memorandum of Conversation; Kukrit Pramote, George M. Widney, 29 April 1954
ข้อความต้นฉบับ (NARA, RG 59 Central Decimal File 1950-1954 Box 4187, Memorandum of Conversation; Kukrit Pramote, George M. Widney, 29 April 1954) คือ
“I [Geroge M. Widney] asked Kukrit if the general public got to know of the King’s actions and views in such cases where he withheld or delayed royal approval. He was emphatic in saying that the public does, and that this is a source of strength for the King. Kukrit asserted, however, that the King had never “gone to the country” to justify his views on an issue nor had he ever sought to generate publicity for such actions. But his views nevertheless have become well known”
โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในประโยคจากเอกสารชั้นต้นที่ระบุว่า “the King had never ‘gone to the country’ to justify his views on an issue nor had he ever sought to generate publicity for such actions” ซึ่งแปลได้ว่า “ในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 9 ไม่ได้เสด็จไปชนบทเพื่อสร้างความชอบธรรมหรือความนิยมในหมู่ประชาชนแต่อย่างใดเลย”
FO 371/129653, Whittington to Foreign Office, 15 May 1957
(I have received a report that Rawle Knox, at present believed to be in Phnom Penh, has filled a dispatch with the “Observer” covering an interview with Madame Phoonsuk Phanomyong, in which she suggests that, if he really wants to know the truth about the regicide of 1946, he should ask the King; she then referred to “the case of the Spanish Princes”, with obvious implications.)
(The publication of any such story at the present juncture when, for internal political reason the Royalists are under heavy attack in the Thai Press, could have serious repercussions. I should be grateful if you could talk to Knox very urgently and, assuming this report to be anywhere near the truth, try to persuade him at least to have his story held up until we have had an opportunity of discussing the matter with him on his return to Bangkok next week.”
(FO 371/1/129653 From Bangkok to Foreign Office.
1. Knox is prepared to discuss his article (which has been mailed and will not be published until May 19) with you on Saturday May 18, when he will be in Bangkok. You may, however, be wise to get hold of him rather than await his [?]
2. Knox was surprised at your consternation and remarked that Robert Swam or Ribett Carnac must have given you an unnecessarily lurid account. Your information would, however, appear to be substantially correct.)
