Truth From Thailand

Dear all my friends out there,

During the past few days, you may have noticed from the news sources around the globe that there has been a conflict between Thailand and Cambodia along the border line.  There were days of military clashes in several battlefields. Lives are lost on both sides. Peace has been taken away.

Then, you may have also noticed that there were groups of Cambodian descents and immigrants gathering in some cities in the US, Europe, Austria and New Zealand trying to tell the world that Thailand has started this war by shooting first while Cambodian government spokesperson and social media influencers have been saying the same things repeatedly. Not only blaming that Thailand has shot the first bullet but also telling the world to fake, uncheckable and even unreal informations such as Thai military aircraft spreads poisonous gas to kill Cambodian civilians and soldiers while using and sharing a false image of an original picture from US wildfire suppression mission in California or things like Cambodian troops have shot down many Thai army’s F-16 aircrafts, etc. Worst of all, the Cambodian government declared a lie to the world that Thai military troops have shot the first bullet while , in fact, there are several verifiable evidences that Thailand didn’t neither start the attack nor attempted to use military force in this conflict. It is , with proven and visible facts, Cambodian government who intentionally began to attack Thai soldiers and ,worst of all, Thai innocent civilians.

Please let me give you some proven examples.

1. According to the analysis from Nathan Ruser, a satellite data analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), there were most significant signs of military buildup and rising tensions originated from the Cambodian side. Cambodian military forces had reinforced various positions and rapidly deployed strategic reinforcements immediately afterward, according to the heat map caught on satellite.

2. On 16th & 23rd July 2025, prior to 24th (the 1st day of the clash), Thai soldiers have severely injured (losing legs) by stepping on the land mines which are examined and found as brand new later on. Even the photo taken at Ta Kwai castle area (one of the battlefields) by Cambodian press shows many brand new PMN2 land mines ready to be embedded to the ground. This is absolutely against the Ottawa treaty (an international agreement that bans the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of anti-personnel landmines) that both Thailand and Cambodia have signed.

3. There are proven evidences showing that Cambodian troops have used several UNESCO certified World’s heritage sites as military bases. This is serious violation of the international law, particularly the 1954 Hague Convention that states “the cultural property can not be used for military purposes. Again, Cambodia has signed this convention.

4. Civilian targets within Thai border have been destroyed by Cambodian fire power “on the first day of the clash”. This includes Convenient store (7-11), Civilian houses, Hospital and Schools. Those have been shot at and destroyed. This is truly a violation of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949.

During the past week, Thai people have witnessed too many ravaging incidences caused by this unnecessary warfare. We have seen our heroes fall after their acts of valor, innocent lives were taken including little children and their mothers and grief of those who lost their beloved ones. We have seen smoke of gunfires, bullets flying , bloods and tears.

Even though, I cannot speak on behalf of all Thais but as far as I’m concerned, we don’t despise Cambodians. Historically, we have been very supportive to them as their closest neighbor and friend. When countless numbers of Cambodian fled to Thailand in order to escape Khmer Rouge, we opened our door to them and set up camps on our soil to comfort and protect them for the sake of friendship and humanity. Nowadays, we have been giving Cambodian people supports on education, jobs,  medical treatments, financial and economic subsidies.

Thai people are usually peaceful by nature ,however, when it comes to a fight, we firmly stand our ground. All we want is to protect our sovereignty and maintaining our humanity at all cost.

Therefore, I am sending you this message as if I were standing right in front of you with hope in my heart, asking you to consider these visible evidences that I have mentioned and more with your unbiased recognition and stand impartially with the truth.

A truth that will eventually bring peace and justice to every soul who lives and falls.

Sincerely,

Kavil Navanugraha

An Ordinary Thai
